Weddings and Sacred Unions
A wedding or union ceremony is one of the most deeply moving and profound rites of passage in our world. It is an ancient, powerful, and universal ritual that has existed from prehistory to the present and throughout most cultures on earth.
Each couple that promises their commitment to each other join hundreds of generations of couples before them who have established new homes and families, beginning with a wedding. In a successful wedding ceremony the couple should feel dramatically changed as they promise their love and trust to each other for the future. Whether the ceremony is small and intimate or large and expansive, the creation of sacred space and the spiritual portal that the couple walks through to change from a bride and a groom to a wife and a husband, must be skillfully constructed.
Reverend Karyl Huntley has performed hundreds of weddings and commitment ceremonies over two decades. She has joined couples in marriage in churches, synagogues, parks, backyards, beaches, museums, boats, offices, and vineyards. She performs same-sex unions, pagan handfastings, weddings which bring together a couple and their children from previous marriages, weddings of couples from different cultural backgrounds, and wedding ceremonies that are spiritual and romantic, but not religious, as well as weddings from specific religious traditions.
Rev. Karyl offers pre-marital counseling, if desired, She offers many unique rituals within the wedding structure including, but not limited to: |
- Rose ceremony for honoring families of the couple
- Elements: earth, air, fire, water
- Releasing the past
- Vows for parents of the couple
- Vows for children, young or mature
- Washing hands and/or feet
- Blessing the wine
- Unity candle
|
She especially enjoys creating unique and personal ceremonies, which exactly express the wishes of her couples. She helps couples write their own wedding vows, if that is what they want. She is known for an ability to include all present in the experience of the wedding. Everyone feels like they are participants and supporters, not mere witnesses, watching something happening to the wedding couple. A sacred space is created and all are changed and lifted into love within that circle.
Rev. Karyl is also available to coach anyone who wishes to perform a wedding. Instruction about legal requirements and ceremony construction and presentation are part of the services she offers.
